International conference
XIII International conference "Synthesis and application of porphyrins and their analogues"
General Information
July 2, 2019 marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of Boris Dmitrievich Berezin, an outstanding scientist, researcher in the field of organic and coordination chemistry, whose scientific and pedagogical activities were closely associated with the Ivanovo State University of Chemistry and Technology and the Institute of Solution Chemistry RAS. The researches of Boris Dmitrievich gave rise to formation of a new scientific direction - "Coordination chemistry of aromatic macroheterocyclic compounds." The cycle of his works in coordination chemistry of phthalocyanine has become widely known. The series of reports on representative scientific forums and the publication of papers in the journal Doklady Akademii nauk SSSR, presented by academician A.N. Terenin, promoted popularization of these works. Since 1980 Boris Dmitrievich led a major research area “Coordination Chemistry of Porphyrins” in the Institute of Chemistry of Non-aqueous Solutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Under his leadership there were synthesized numerous functional derivatives of porphyrins, containing substituents in various positions of molecules, as well as complexes with most of the complex-forming elements of the Periodic Table; the most important physico-chemical properties of porphyrins and metalloporphyrins were studied. B.D. Berezin and his students together with scientists from the Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy. Vavilov State Optical Institute. Semenov Institute of Chemical Physics. Frumkin Institute of Electrochemistry carried out the investigations of the applied properties of porphyrins and the theoretical justification for their use in engineering. As part of the research led by Berezin, new independent scientific directions have arisen and are being successfully developed by his students.
B.D. Berezin has created a scientific school, which occupies a leading position in the coordination chemistry of porphyrins. Boris Dmitrievich is the author of more than 30 monographs and textbooks, about 50 reviews and about 1000 original articles, 40 copyright certificates for inventions, a head of more than 70 candidate and doctoral theses. Boris Dmitrievich actively participated in the organization and holding of all-Union scientific conferences and symposia, 12 of which were held directly in the Ivanovo city.
The merits of Boris D. Berezin in the field of fundamental science and higher education were recognized and he was awarded the second Order “Badge of Honor” in 1986, the USSR State Prize in science and technology in 1987, the title of laureate of the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology in 2003 for developing methods for the directed synthesis of cyclic tetrapyrrole compounds for technical purposes as part of a team of scientists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ivanovo.
The students of Boris Dmitrievich Berezin dedicate this conference to the 90th anniversary of his birth.
